Missouri Legislative Update

At our April meeting Steve Witte, Government Affair Director of the Missouri Insurance Coalition provided a comprehensive review of legislation being considered in the Missouri House and Senate relevant to the insurance industry. Among the various legislation being discussed, Steve talked about House Bills and/or Senate Bills that:
 

  • Address insurance coverage of transportation Network Companies
  • Would no longer require insurers to nonrenew when transferring a policy to an affiliateErika and Tim enjoying the April meeting
  • Address workers' compensation insurance coverage
  • Require life insurance companies to compare policies, annuities, and accounts against the death master file for potential matches and to either pay beneficiaries or remit unclaimed benefits to the state treasurer
  • Require prescription drug monitoring
  • Regulate pre-settlement lawsuit funding loan companies
  • Adopt the Daubert Standard (federal standard) rule of evidence regarding expert witness testimony
  • Address tort reform related to claims against insurance companies
  • Regulate predatory towing and storage practices
  • Allows the creation and issuance of insurance policies covering earthquake loss under the Missouri FAIR Plan
  • Allow motorcycle riders to ride without helmets in Missouri
