The Institutes’ Executive Education Program was held at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business on March 22nd thought the 27th. The program is designed as an advanced five-day interactive learning experience for senior level managers and executives. The week incorporates numerous graduate level case studies that are worked on in a collaborative team structure. The case studies are from various industries, including Property and Casualty insurance, but all are easily translatable to our individual companies. You learn strategic thinking processes, individual and group decision-making dynamics as well as financial decision-making and how ratios impact those decisions.

The instructors worked well with the entire class. Our varying backgrounds and specialties offered a real mix of perspectives which did not deter our professors. Clearly highly experienced in their own rights, with much private sector experience, they were able to communicate clearly and bring everyone in the class to appropriate conclusion.

I would encourage others to attend. Personally, I found each session relevant to my position. If planning on attending, I would suggest you remember to bring your reading glasses, and pre-reading all the case studies in advance. The networking opportunity is priceless. Getting to interact with others in similar positions in a collaborative decision-making environment gives you real insight into the challenges we all face.
