A recent study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that 80% of students will be in an auto accident before age 20, and 20% of students will be in a serious auto accident requiring a trip to the emergency room before age 20.
Almost half of these serious-accident injuries involved an unbuckled passenger. Their injury or death could have been completely avoided by wearing a seatbelt.
These presentations, designed for future and newly-licensed drivers, will include information about roadway safety, impaired driving, Missouri Graduated Driver License Law, and a personal story about the potential consequences of distracted/impaired driving.
This information is provided through a joint effort between the Columbia Public Schools – Reality Week, MoDOT, Columbia Police Department, Think First Missouri, and the Central Missouri CPCU Society Chapter.
